How to Become a Leader

Welcome to this part of the management and leadership module.

In this part, we will discuss some key concepts of the theory and give you input to look at yourself in a possible leadership role. It becomes clear that leadership is not only about a role in a business context with focused and sustainable objectives. It is also about steering/leading your own development and efforts. Subsequently, it is also about influencing others, for example with the aim of achieving a shared goal together.

This section will help you to get an idea of your own expectations and framing with regard to leadership. You will be asked a series of questions to consider so that you come up with your own answers, e.g. whether you think you can learn to be a good leader. In addition to a theoretical framework, you’ll have the opportunity to watch and listen to others to discover which leadership type appeals to you.

Relevant theory will be briefly explained and you can watch videos for inspiration. The similarities and differences between management and leadership will be discussed.

It encourages you to think critically. You will become more aware of your own convictions, qualities and actions. Go through the questions, reflect on them thoroughly and write down your answers for yourself. Challenge yourself to investigate further, for instance by taking in additional theory mentioned in the texts, or by looking for answers to questions posed in the topic for that purpose.
