How to Align Your Team

Welcome to this part of the management and leadership module: How to align your team.

the In this chapter we will take a step towards leading others in a business context. You will briefly go through theory that makes you think about a number of relevant management issues.  For example how do you assemble a team and make it work pleasantly and efficiently together? How to steer towards taking (shared) responsibility.  You become aware of the role of an appropriate corporate culture.

What is a suitable corporate culture for you has, of course, everything to do with your own  vision. See previous lessons in this module.  As a leader, you act in line with that vision and are aware of its social impact.

Leadership implies followers and in a business environment, inspiring, directing and coaching employees. Because as soon as your business grows you will have to deal with growth issues. You have to think about steps you need to take to build a well co-operating team that represents the company’s ambition and goals. This means having staff, putting together a team, setting business and team targets, monitoring shared norms and values, building the corporate culture.

In this lesson you will learn which (strategic)choices successful leaders make in order to realise company (and therefore team) objectives.

Which CEO’s Have the Greatest Chance of Long-term Success?

CEOs and the difference in priorities:

1. Profit (organisational goals)
2. Customers
3. Employees
1. Employees
2. Customers
3. Organisational goals
If profit is at the top, employees are often neglected, which reduces customer service. So ultimately, the profit will decrease. When employees feel loved, they take very good care of the customers, which leads to good business results.
