Governance & Leadership

Course Description

Welcome to the Governance and Leadership module. This module is prepared and delivered in conjunction with other modules aimed at providing knowledge, skills and competence to the Social Enterprise Sector. As part of the “The Third Way” Erasmus+ initiative the structure and format of this module will guide anyone interested in setting-up, working in or improving their impact within a Social Enterprise. Likewise, you will learn “by doing” the exercises that are at the end of the module and answering thought provoking questions posed during the presentations. This is aimed at improving your knowledge of governance and leadership within the Social Enterprise sector.

As previously mentioned in the Project Management module, you will be able to share your experiences with others in the third sector (the term used for the social business sector in the UK) by providing a ‘pitch’ on social media. This should consider some of the issues raised in the Governance module, for example, any ‘pitch’ should include a clear steer regarding the vision and mission and/ or the long term objectives of your planned enterprise. You should also have a plan to manage any perceived risks, manage your anticipated stakeholders and perhaps obviously, know who is going to be on your board of directors and why they are there. In other words, know what skills and expertise they bring to the boardroom!

There is further reading and videos recommended that can increase your knowledge about this topic, as well as the other topics included in the course.
